In 2018, CCJ organized a Collection Survey trip to Tokyo to research the collection of artist Keiichi Tanaami. Led by researcher Julian Ross and archivist John Klacsmann, the project eventually led to the preservation of Tanaami’s work, Human Events (1975), and on view in our upcoming exhibition at Pioneer Works, More Than Cinema: Motoharu Jonouchi and Keiichi Tanaami, opening on March 6th, 2020.

Since 2017, Collaborative Cataloging Japan, with its research partners Go Hirasawa and Julian Ross, have pursued study and preservation projects related to Japanese Expanded Cinema. Since 2017, CCJ has been working with artist Shuzo Azuchi Gulliver, first at an Artist Talk organized by CCJ and Vox Populi Gallery, Philadelphia. We are excited to continue our working relationship as we prepare our presentations of Gulliver’s works this spring.
