community archiving workshop in tokyo 2016
community archiving workshop (CAW)
In 2010, the Independent Media Interest Group of the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) held its first workshop based on the MIAP model. CAWs have been held as a pre-conference workshop annually at AMIA conferences and are now organized jointly with the AMIA Diversity Committee. In addition, independent CAWs have been held in New York, Nashville, Santiago (Chile), and Oaxaca, Mexico. For more information about CAW: http://communityarchiving.org/about-caw/
CCJ invited Professor Mona Jimenez and Laurie Duke of MIAP program at New York University to conduct a version of CAW in Tokyo. In collaboration with Nihon University College of Art and Japan Society of Image Arts and Sciences (JASIAS), CCJ co-organized the half-day event which drew 20 participants including students, museum curators, university professors, artists, and moving image consulting companies.
